Meet Stephany Nesser, FNP

Specialty: Family Practice.
Now Living in: Snoqualmie , WA
How long on the Board: Since January 2012.

Current work place and position: Currently working as a Women’s Health Specialist for Bayer Healthcare to provide specialized, evidence-based training for providers regarding fertility options for women. Also a Family Nurse Practitioner for Lakeside Family Physicians providing holistic, patient-centered care for patients of all ages. My passion is also working with the underserved and traveling across the globe for Medical Missions. “Be the change you wish to see in this world” Gahdhi.

Brief work history: I have been a nurse for 14 years with experience in rural emergency nursing, cardiac nursing, primary care and in women’s health.

Why you chose your specialty: Family medicine is where my heart is, I love the ability we have to provide compassionate, personalized care and to partner with patients in the decision making process to optimize their health. In my other role, I love to be an advocate for women and to help educate other providers about current options in fertility health in my role with Bayer.

Why you volunteered for the BOD: I am proud to be part of such an important group representing our common needs and goals as Nurse Practitioners. I have benefited from the work of AUWS for increased prescription rights to better meet the needs of my patients. I want to contribute to the organization and help support the future of nursing in our state.

What you most care about regarding NPs: We have a unique role combining medicine and nursing to provide compassionate, clinically current care. We are teachers, counselors, mentors and leaders in our communities and truly have an impact on our patient’s lives. We truly help to bridge the gap in access to healthcare in our communities.

Your hopes for AUWS: My hope is that we can unite Nurse Practitioners across the state to band together to make important changes politically and in our communities that directly impact our practices and patients. We need to help bridge the gap of disparities in many areas such as health care reimbursement for Nurse Practitioners and to be advocates for our patients. “Never underestimate the power of a small group of people to change the world. In face, it is the only way it ever has.” Margaret Mead.
