Meet Sarah Korkowski, NNP
Specialty: Neonatology.
Now Living in: Seattle, WA
How long on the Board: Since January 1, 2010.
Current work place and position: I am currently employed as a Neonatal NP for Seattle Children’s Hospital. In my role I work predominantly at local community hospitals including Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, and Overlake Hospital and Medical Center in Bellevue.
Why specialty was chosen: I announced to my mother that I wanted to be a baby nurse when I was about 10. I left Seattle some years later to pursue my BSN at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, after which I worked as an RN at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital (part of University Hospitals of Cleveland). I chose to return to school and pursued some doctoral coursework while waiting for the Neonatal specialty courses to be offered. After completing my Master’s I returned home, where I have been employed by Seattle Children’s for the past 6 years. I guest lecture at the University of Washington and teach Neonatal Resuscitation.
Why you volunteered for the Board: First, because the recent addition of billing to our inpatient role has brought to my attention the many, and sometimes intrusive, ways that legislation can affect my daily clinical practice. Second, because I love my work, and the preservation and marketing of the work that nurse practitioners perform is a valuable endeavor.
