I’m a member of AANP, and the Nurse Practitioner Group of Spokane (NPGS) — chaired Education committee for past 4 years. I practiced as a nurse for 20 years before returning to Gonzaga for my MSN. I worked the majority of my bedside nursing in cardiovascular nursing with the last 10 years in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation and diabetes education. After graduation I worked for a year in family practice and internal medicine, then worked on the ACCORD diabetes study at WSU College of Pharmacy. I then had the opportunity to move to Endocrinology full time. I see patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes; Gestational diabetes; pre-diabetes; thyroid and pituitary disorders. ItŐs a great clinic with a truly collaborative practice with 2 other NPs, 2 Endocrinologists, and 3 Internal Medicine physicians.
I am interested in legislative issues at state and national level that impact NP practice. I was able to attend the AANP legislative training in April 2008. It was a great learning experience to see how bills are introduced, lobbied, signed off etc in the House and Senate. Being able to meet with legislators and have a conversation about who NPs are and what we do was incredibly eye opening. We need more exposure!!
