Meet Angie Miller, CNM
Specialty: Nurse-Midwifery.
Now Living in: Tacoma, WA
How long on the Board: Board member since January 2009.
Current work place and position: St. Joseph Women’s Clinic, Tacoma
I come from a large Midwest family and am working at a busy ob/gyn practice in Tacoma. I moved from Minnesota to Washington in 2006 for graduate school, but stayed for the allure of mountains, Puget Sound, and political friendliness toward nurse practitioners.I remember going to a gathering where Ann Darlington, CNM, ARNP stood up and talked about ARNPs United and the work they do. At the time I was just a first year graduate student, and had a lot of work to do before I was to become a certified nurse midwife. But I thought, “Wow, I could be that woman that does all that work toward making real improvements in public health policy and legislation!”
I am new to Washington, but not so new to politics and healthcare. I have worked in healthcare for 13 years, first as a nursing assistant, then as a registered nurse, and now as a nurse-midwife. During this time I have been a strong advocate for patients, families, and care providers while keeping my fingers in the political system. In addition to boundless energy and political savvy, I bring to the table a high level of competence and a true desire to work with others on the Board to effect real, lasting change.
